Vaporizing isn’t rocket science, but it can take a few tries to get comfortable. With a little advice and a few practice sessions, you’ll be a vaporizer pro in no time.
First of all, good on you for upgrading. Not only does smoking a joint waste up to 50 per cent of the flower, it produces harmful carcinogens that you won’t get from vaping, and, quite frankly, it smells—everyone in a 10-metre radius knows you’re lighting up. Vaporizing is a healthy choice, and although you probably won’t nail it on the first try—no one does—these tips will help you master the learning curve, so you can move on to mastering other cannabis skills, like choosing the right strain.

Vaporizing is a healthy choice, and although you probably won’t nail it on the first try—no one does—these tips will help you master the learning curve, so you can move on to mastering other cannabis skills, like choosing the right strain.
Grind and grind your bud
You’ve probably noticed that not all bud is created equal. Some is dense and sticky and impossible to pick apart, while other stuff is super dry and crumbles between your fingers.
Regardless of consistency, buds need to be broken up extra fine to maximize your vape’s performance. Investing in a quality manual buster that breaks and sifts your herb is recommended. These devices are small, convenient, and long lasting, and will help ensure a consistent vaping experience.
There are also electric busters on the market, or, yes, an old coffee bean grinder works, too.
And store it well
How you store your marijuana will have a huge impact on your vaping experience. If your bud gets too dry, it will taste harsh and hot; too moist and you risk getting mould. We recommend an air-tight storage container (a small glass jar with a tight-fitting lid is a good solution), stored out of direct light at room temperature. This is a simple step, but very important.
Expertly pack the chamber
Packing the perfect chamber for your vape is an art, so don’t be discouraged if you don’t nail it right away. Like the baristas at your fave cafe who tamp that espresso shot with just the right amount of force, it takes practice to know just how much pressure to put on those loose grinds.
If, for example, you’re using a portable unit like the G Pro Vaporizer, fill the chamber with loose herb (pinch, scrape or funnel it in), then tamp (pack) it down lightly with your finger. With any vaporizer device, the more bud you fit in, the more vapour it can produce, but pack it too tight and it may constrict airflow, impeding the process. Practice makes perfect for packing your vape just right.
When to increase the heat
When it comes to setting the temperature on your vaporizer, here you also have to execute some trial and error. The general rule is to start at a low heat and increase accordingly. At lower temps, particles
will vaporize and the pull will taste clean and feel soft. If you increase the temperature above 230˚C the herb will start to burn, which gives it a mild, burnt popcorn taste. Most users end up finding a “sweet spot” on their temperature dial and either keep it there, or slowly adjust their way up to it as the session progresses.
Keep your vaporizer clean
Your session doesn’t end when you’ve had a few good pulls, at least not if you want your device to continue working properly. Get in the habit of cleaning your vaporizer after each use. Every unit will be different, so be sure to read the instructions and use the tools provided. But in general, you’ve got to:
clear the chamber
keep the vapour paths nice and tidy
make sure the screens are clean
